A useful safety audit connects what is written in your programs with what actually happens on site. MAXIMUS EHS helps California businesses identify gaps, organize findings, and plan practical corrective actions.
When an audit can help
An audit can be useful before a project starts, after operational changes, when a contractor requests documentation, or when you want an independent review of workplace practices. The engagement can focus on a construction job site, warehouse, manufacturing operation, or commercial facility.
What the review can cover
The agreed scope may include a site walkthrough, a review of available safety programs, discussions with site leadership, and observations of selected tasks. Topics can include access, housekeeping, equipment interactions, hazard communication, emergency arrangements, and task-specific controls. The review follows the hazards and activities present at your location.
From findings to action
Findings should explain the observed condition, why it deserves attention, and the recommended next step. Discuss a written report with prioritized actions, assigned responsibilities, and follow-up needs before the engagement begins. The goal is a usable action plan rather than an unexplained checklist.
Preparing for your first site visit
Share your site location, scope of work, current phase, active contractors, and relevant safety documents. Identify restricted areas and access requirements in advance. If you have received a request from an owner, insurer, or regulator, include that request when scoping the review.
Audit scope and limitations
A consulting audit is not a government inspection, certification, or guarantee that every hazard has been identified. Access, timing, available information, and the agreed scope affect the findings. Your organization remains responsible for implementing controls and maintaining safe operations.
